More information about the service and instructions for getting started can be found at hubi.fi/m.


HUBI portal and the services offered on it are free to use, but your mobile phone operator charges you for data connections. Mobile plans with fixed monthly price for data connections are recommended. Examples about data transfer amounts: loading the portal ~300 kb, finding the routes on the travel guide and browsing the stop maps ~100-200 kb in total, loading the event recommendations ~30-40 kb.


Features marked with the symbol ¤ require logging in to the service.


Route Guide Route Guide allows you to search for current or future (next 24h) routes to any address, or to one of your predefined own places. As the starting point you can also use your current location. The service uses HSL's route guide data.


Home from Here ¤ Home from Here is a shortcut for finding your way to your home, from your current location right now. You can set your home location through the My Places service.


Events Events provides you with personal event recommendations, when you select "For you". Your recommender improves over time through learning (¤) about your interests; read more in the section Recommender settings at the service settings page. The relative location, starting time and popularity of the events are also taken into account. You can also simply list any and all events that are starting soon, or long-term events currently running but ending soon. You can also search for a route to the event and bookmark the event to your favorites.


My Places ¤ My Places allows you to add and edit locations, helping you in route finding. You can also mark one place as your home.


Favorites ¤ Favorites shows you the events you have bookmarked as favorites.


Friends ¤ Friends shows you a listing of your friends who have joined the service. You can also see the distance between their most recent known location (if available) and your current position. You can also send text messages to friends who have entered their phone numbers to the service.


Feedback Feedback gives you a form to send feedback about HUBI and its services.


Owela Owela aka Open Web Lab developed by VTT serves as the feedback and discussion channel for the HUBI service. Owela is found through "Feedback".


Education Education presents you with various trainings and courses that will commence soon.


City Trails City Trails allows you to acquaint yourself with urban trails presenting various points of interest.


Public Services Public Services informs you of city services and outlets. The information is sourced from the Helsinki City Service Map, which contains partial data also from Espoo and Vantaa. The services are always listed in the order of distance. Besides the functions described below, you can use nine shortcuts for services near your location: libraries, museums, public toilets, indoor sports facilities, swimming places, outdoor sports sites, wireless internet connection providers, youth services and public shelters.


Keyword search Keyword search allows you to search for services with keywords. You can base the search on your current location, a given address or your own saved place, and limit the results to a suitable distance.


Services nearby Services nearby shows you the closest services and outlets from the complete dataset of the Service Map.


City news City news offers newsfeed of the cities, currently from Helsinki and Espoo.

Main page Main page


Map Map displays by default your location on the map, but the functionality changes depending on which page you are. For example, on the event description page, the map button will display the location of the event.


Settings Settings allows you to control visibility of your data to your friends and to update your status message visible to your friends. Also you can adjust your profile settings, which affects your event recommendations.


GPS Positioning settings allows you to enable or disable sharing of positioning data to your friends. You can also set the location refresh time.


Back Back returns you to the previously viewed screen of the portal. The "back" feature of the browser can not be used for this purpose, as it will move you out of the portal.
